Sunrise over Luang Prabang, the former royal capital of Laos and current UNESCO World Heritage Site. 🇱🇦 Reaching this viewing point at the top of sacred Mount Phousi involved climbing 300 stairs (in the dark), and it was worth every step. 🙏🏻🧡 . . . *PRO TIPS* There is an entrance fee of about 20,000 Lao Kip (approx $2.50 USD) to climb Mount Phousi, which you pay about half way up the hill. You can climb Mount Phousi from 5:30am each day, although we actually got there slightly earlier and were able to start making our way up. Please note accessibility is, unfortunately, an issue. The only way to reach the top is via one of two stairways spiraling up either side of the hill, each with 300+ steps. If you're not an early bird, Mount Phousi offers equally stunning sunsets - but be warned. While the summit has mild crowds at sunrise, expect serious overcrowding at sunset. Work hard anywhere - even on the Mekong River. 🛶👩🏻‍💻👨🏻‍💻 . . There wasn't wi-fi and there wasn't power on this 2-day epic journey down the mighty Mekong, but we did manage to get in a few hours of offline work until batteries ran out. 😂 . . . Cruising down the Mekong River from the border town of Huay Xai, Laos --> Luang Prabang (the country's former royal capital and current UNESCO World Heritage site) is easily a top highlight of our time in southeast Asia. With no wi-fi and no power, there's literally nothing to do but relax, be alone with your thoughts, and gaze out at the mighty Mekong and surrounding Lao scenery. Plus, the route stops at local villages in addition to the Buddha-filled Pak Ou Caves, a destination in and of itself. We booked and highly recommend Mekong Smile Cruise as an excellent, affordable option, although Shompoo Cruise and luxury Luang Say also offer the 2-day route. (This is not to be confused with the public slow boat, which also runs from Huay Xai --> Luang Prabang but without the stops and extra frills.) . . . A little drone inspo we put together of our time at the Chiang Khong Teak Garden Riverfront Hotel, on the border of Thailand and Laos (Thai side). 🧡 . . . Like many travelers, we almost skipped Chiang Khong altogether in favor of breezing straight through the border - but we're so glad we didn't! While there's nothing to do in the little border town of Chiang Khong, Thailand, that's the beauty of it. Book yourself a riverfront hotel for a few days and simply kick back, relax and soak in the Mekong River views.
