Palmy digs in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico - our new home! After 15 years of living in NYC followed by this past year of on-the-go travel, Alberto & I have decided to land in the Riviera Maya as our current home base. 📍 . . From cave swimming to cave dining. 😎 Well, almost. While we didn't dine here, we did enjoy wandering through this 10,000+ year old cavern-turned-restaurant & bar in Playa Del Carmen. Alux Restaurant, pronounced "A-loosh," is named after the legend of the Aluxes: mischievous Mayan elves inhabiting such underground spaces as caves & cenotes, appearing only at night to engage in playful shenanigans and general mischief. Easily the most unique dining experience in Playa Del Carmen, make a res for dinner or you can do what we did - pay $150 pesos (roughly $8 USD) for a self-guided tour of the maze-like cavern, house cocktail included. (Tip: the house margs are excellent.) While we didn't spot any aluxes, we were privy to stalagmites, stalactites, bats, even a mini-waterfall, resulting in an otherworldly experience all the same. 💫📍@alux_fine.dining_playa #travelinglamas #aluxrestaurant #playadelcarmen . . .
